Market Day Volunteers

Market Day volunteers work a one-hour shift every Thursday of the season between 9 AM and 7 PM at our pick up location, the Brown-RISD Hillel (80 Brown Street). Responsibilities include setting up for Market Day, facilitating shareholder pick-up, pre-packing and delivering subsidized shares, and cleaning up and returning storage items at the end of Market Day.

Volunteers are expected to show up on time for the same shift every week unless otherwise communicated with the Operations Coordinator. In return, volunteers can take home one item of produce from that week’s share at the end of their shift. No one leaves empty handed!

We also have developed volunteer projects  to allow for additional volunteer participation. With the help of a coordinator, volunteers work in groups responsible for a specific project or goal and can dedicate as much or little time as they would like per week. Some of the projects from last season include a cost analysis project, cookbook, and working on the Market Shares blog.

Market Day Shift Leaders

Shift Leaders are responsible for directing Market Day volunteers during two-hour shifts. Responsibilities include organizing and delegating tasks to Market Day volunteers, managing Market Day logistics like shareholder sign-in and payments, answering shareholders' questions and concerns, and making sure the pick-up area is tidy and items are stocked at the end of the day.

Shift leaders are expected to commit to their two-hour shift every week, unless otherwise arranged with the Operations Coordinator. We expect applicants to have prior experience volunteering with Market Shares and to actively engage with the development of the program throughout the season. In return, shift leaders receive a third of a share each week for their hard work and dedication.
